However, on my rifle, the hammer strikes the nipple more to one side instead of being centered. That may present the problem of hitting the musket cap. Not sure how your hammer and nipple line up.I have seen retail stores asking as much as $600.00 for a Hawken which is insanity. A used rifle depends on the condition and the caliber. The .45 caliber is getting rare. They are good roundball shooters. Get some .440 round ball and patch. Try about 60-70 grains of powder for starting loads and see how it shoots.

My first flintlock was a TC .45 Hawken. It was very accurate with 240 gr Maxi balls ans 90 or 95 gr of Goex 3f. Like 3" 3-shot groups at 100 yards. I sold it when PA originally mandated patched round balls only.

Having fooled with a bunch of TCs, I found that bores vary at times from gun to gun. I couldn't start a .495 down the barrel of my .50 kit gun with a hammer, a .490 is tight but doable.
